Our investigation focused on the prevalence and course of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in cancer patients during the pandemic's waves, and we explored the variables potentially related to elevated symptom levels.
A one-year longitudinal, prospective study, COVIPACT, scrutinized French patients with solid and hematological malignancies receiving treatment during the initial nationwide lockdown in France. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised was used to measure PTSS every three months, commencing in April 2020. Patients' quality of life, cognitive difficulties, sleep problems, and accounts of the COVID-19 lockdown experiences were also assessed via questionnaires.
Three hundred eighty-six patients, who had at least one post-baseline PTSD assessment, were included in the longitudinal study (median age, 63 years; 76% female). Among the study participants, a rate of 215% reported moderate or severe post-traumatic stress disorder during the first lockdown period. Patients reporting PTSS experienced a 136% decrease upon the first lockdown release, only to see a significant 232% increase with the implementation of the second lockdown. The methodology of this study, relying on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, charted the locations of bulk bulking-only medical practices collected during mid-2020, coordinating this information with population data. Population data and practice locations were analyzed for each Statistical Areas Level 2 (SA2) region, incorporating the most recent Census data.
The dataset comprised 2095 medical practice locations that exclusively utilized bulk billing. The average Population-to-Practice (PtP) ratio nationally, for areas exclusively providing bulk billing, is 1 practice per 8529 people.
